Iant Point
Kapoposang
Kapoposang Islands is part of the outermost group of islands that make up the Spermonde Archipelago, located about 70 kilometers northwest off Makassar, the capital city of South Sulawesi. The bigger islands within the Spermonde region are Papandangan, Kondongbali, Suranti, and Tambakulu. Although local divers started diving Kapoposan in the mid 90s, the diving industry here has not been properly developed. This means that accommodation on the island is limited, with only two available options, both of which are under the management of local dive operators and dive clubs.
Kapoposong offers clear water and lots of pelagics; dives here hold the promise of tuna, shark, and occasionally, marine mammals such as dolphins and whales that are spotted at the drop off or in the surge on the reef flat.
The topography here is extraordinary. The island is ringed with shallow contours, which suddenly drop steeply into a seemingly endless wall. The dive sites in Kapoposang are spread from the west to the north and to the east. Some of the area’s most famous sites are killing Fiela, Shark point, Mardjono point, Nakano point, Cave point, Turtle point, Aquarium point, Januar point, and lan’s point.
The best to visit Kapoposang is from April to November when the sea tends to be calmer, the weather is better and the winds are not as strong as they are at the beginning and the end of the year. Boats to Kapoposang leave from popsa Pier near fort Rotterdam in Jalan pasar ikan, Makassar. The journey takes about two hourse by speedboat.
